Frank Frazetta Johnny Comet Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 4-23-52 (McNaught Syndicate, 1952). Frank Frazetta based the appearance of the 1950s racecar driver, star of his short-lived but outstanding adventure comic strip Johnny Comet, on himself, as you can clearly see in Panels 1 and 3 of this stunning daily. This strip, from within the first three months of its introduction, was produced in ink and Zipatone shading film over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 17" x 4.5". Frazetta's crisp line work, his depth of detail, and his expert use of shading film make this episode one of the nicest Johnny Comet dailies we've ever seen! The last Johnny Comet strip that we auctioned, in April of this year, sold for an impressive $21,600, so be ready for some serious competition if you'd like to add this Frazetta original to your collection. Light toning, more pronounced at the edges, with some handling and edge wear. There is a pasted-on text correction in the first panel, and a small piece of Zipatone is attached to the back (where a previous price of $55 is hand-written). Frazetta's famous signature can be seen in the last panel.
